Terms of service
In effect from 28 August 2026
These are the terms you agree to when you use mycarcheck. The two sections most worth reading are what a report is not, and what happens when a check cannot be completed.
1. This agreement
By using this site or buying a report you agree to these terms. If you are buying on behalf of a business, you confirm you are authorised to bind it.
2. What a report is
A report tells you what the official Australian vehicle registries held about a vehicle at the moment we asked them. Depending on what you buy, that can include whether the vehicle is recorded as stolen, whether it has been written off, whether money is owing against it, its registration status and its identity.
A report is not a mechanical inspection. It says nothing about the condition of the vehicle, whether it is safe, whether it has been repaired well, or what it is worth. It is not legal or financial advice. It does not replace looking at the car, driving it, or having a mechanic look at it.
We report what the registries hold. We do not create that information and cannot correct it. If a registry’s record is wrong or out of date, your report will faithfully reflect a wrong record. Tell us and we are obliged to raise it with them.
Records change constantly. A report describes the day it was run, which is why every report carries its search date prominently.
3. Accounts
You can buy without an account. If you create one, keep your sign-in details to yourself. Anyone who has them can read your reports. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
You must give us an email address you actually control. It is where your report goes, and it is how a purchase is later attached to an account.
4. Prices and payment
Prices are shown in Australian dollars and include GST. You pay before we run the check, because running it costs us money we cannot recover.
Payment is handled by our payment provider on their own page. You may choose to save a card for next time. We will always ask first, and you can remove it from your account at any point.
5. When a check cannot be completed
Registries go down. When one does not answer, we deliver everything we could check and say plainly which check is missing. We never show an unanswered check as a pass.
Then one of two things happens:
- We complete it. Our team is alerted automatically and re-runs the missing check, usually within a day. You get an updated report at no extra cost.
- Or a person decides what you are owed. If nobody has completed it within 24 hours, the order is escalated and somebody reviews it. What you are owed depends on what actually reached you. It may be everything you paid or part of it, and we will tell you which and why. You keep the partial report either way. Where a failure is not major, the Australian Consumer Law lets us choose between repairing the problem and refunding it, and we do; where it is major, your right to choose is unaffected and nothing here limits it.
If you would rather not wait, tell us. Reply to your confirmation email, or use the contact form, and we will sort it out with you.
If we could not deliver anything usable at all, we refund you in full without being asked.
6. Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms limits them, and any part of these terms that tried to would simply have no effect.
Where a guarantee applies and we have not met it, you have the remedies the law gives you. For a failure that does not amount to a major one, we are entitled to choose the remedy, which is what section 5 describes us doing.
7. What you may do with a report
A report is licensed to you, for your own decision about that vehicle. You may keep it, print it, and show it to anyone you like.
What you may not do, because our agreements with the registries do not permit it:
- Republish reports, or make them available to the public or to a group as a service
- Resell reports, or use them to build a competing product or a database of your own
- Extract, scrape or systematically collect the data in them
- Use automated tools against this site, or try to get around the limits on free checks
The PPSR certificate is different: it is an official document issued by the register about your search, and passing it to a buyer or seller is exactly what it is for.
8. Free checks
The free check is a courtesy, limited per person and per day, and we may change or withdraw it. Each one costs us a real fee, so the limits are not arbitrary. Buying a report raises your allowance for that day.
9. Availability
We aim to be available, and we depend on registries we do not control. We do not promise the service will be uninterrupted. If we cannot deliver what you paid for, section 5 says what happens.
10. Liability
Subject to section 6 and to any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, our total liability to you for any claim connected with a report is limited to resupplying it, or refunding what you paid for it.
We are not liable for a decision you make about buying, selling or keeping a vehicle. A report is one input into that decision and, as section 2 says, not a substitute for inspecting the vehicle.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, or the cost of a transaction you did or did not enter into. If a check we owed you could not be completed, the report and its price are what is in question. A vehicle purchase you made alongside it is not.
11. How long we keep your report
| What | How long |
|---|---|
| Your report, readable in your account | 365 days from the search |
| A guest link to a report | 30 days |
| Receipts and search records | 7 years, as tax law and our registry agreements require |
Anything we have emailed you is yours to keep for as long as you like. Full detail is in the privacy policy.
12. Ending this agreement
You can stop using the service or delete your account whenever you like. We may suspend an account that is being used to scrape, resell or otherwise breach section 7. If we do, we will refund any report you have paid for and not received.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and the courts there have jurisdiction.
14. Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top always says when. Changes are not retrospective: a report you have already bought is governed by the terms in force when you bought it.
15. Contact
Use our contact form for anything about an order or about your information. We do not publish addresses on the site. A published one is harvested and resold within days, and the form reaches the same people.
